THIRD PARTY FUNDRAISER IDEAS

Once you are confident that you’ll be able to recruit participants, you will need to know what your costs are going to be. Determining your budget will help you to decide whether your fundraising target is realistic and attainable and will help you monitor your expenses. You may also want to try to obtain sponsorship for the materials needed to make your event successful. ALS BC can provide you with a letter of support, which confirms that you are holding this event for the charity, as well as a sample sponsorship proposal template to use for these purposes.

You will need to contact your desired venue and inquire about any necessary permits or insurance and what needs to be done to book a day. As the organizer, you will be responsible for your own insurance. Inform them of what you want to do and why you are supporting the ALS Society of BC, as some facilities will give charitable rates for rentals.

When your date and location are confirmed, you will want to start recruiting participants. ALS BC can provide you with pledge forms for your event that you can use to begin soliciting pledges and donations. You can also create a fundraising web page for the event for easy online fundraising. The event and fundraising site are then promoted through the ALS Society of BC’s social media, such as its Facebook and Twitter pages. There are many different fundraising event options. Get creative! Here are a few ideas.

Community Fundraisers: sporting events, golf tournaments, car washes, garage sales, pancake breakfasts, BBQs by donation, etc.

School Fundraisers: school dances, dance-a-thons, bake sales, floor hockey tournaments with students versus teachers, hula-hoop-a-thons, teeter-totter-a-thons, etc.

Note: Make sure to first obtain approval from the school principal (high school or elementary) or facilities manager/events services/administration (post secondary).

Work Fundraisers: Work fundraisers are a great way to build team spirit while raising money and awareness for ALS. Some work fundraiser ideas include tea time/ bake sales, jeans days, bowling parties, 50/50 draws, company picnics, etc.
